SculpSure Body Contouring Q & A

What is body sculpting?

Body sculpting is a procedure used to target and remove stubborn areas of fat and cellulite that don’t respond to diet and exercises. Body sculpting can be very effective in helping patients achieve a tighter, more toned profile, and it’s also very popular among people who have lost a significant amount of weight and want to refine their results. Some body contouring procedures, including those that use lasers, can also help tighten and tone lax skin that can occur when fat is removed from the treatment areas.

What is SculpSure?

SculpSure is a body sculpting (or body contouring) treatment that uses a technique called laser lipolysis to melt away stubborn deposits of fat in the belly and flanks. SculpSure can also be used on arms, thighs or other areas of concern. Laser lipolysis directs the focused energy of lasers through the skin to the layers of tissue where fat is located, avoiding the need for incisions. Once the energy reaches the treatment area, the heat of the laser breaks down fat cell walls, liquefying fat and enabling the cellular debris to be removed by the body’s natural waste removal processes.

Is SculpSure the same as traditional liposuction?

No; liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses incisions to enable a long suctioning instrument or cannula to reach and remove large deposits of fat. Traditional liposuction is associated with additional tissue damage and bruising, as well as a long recovery period usually accompanied by considerable discomfort. SculpSure uses lasers to avoid the need for incisions, resulting in a fast, comfortable recovery, and it’s not intended to remove large amounts of fatty tissue.

What happens during a SculpSure treatment?

During treatment, the patient will lie comfortably on the treatment table and up to four laser applications will be applied over the skin to your area of choice, emitting laser energy directly to the stubborn deposits of fat. The device is designed to ensure a consistent result, avoiding “puckering” or “dimpling” or visible "shelves", which is sometimes seen with other fat removal treatments. Treatment can be completed in the office in as little as 25 minutes, with initial results becoming visible in about six weeks and optimal results appearing in about 12 weeks.
